Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
